Introducing the Import API for Batch Updates

APIITRP's import functionality gets used a lot. It is so popular because it makes it easy to add and update a large number of records with a single action.

We have just added the Import API to make the same import functionality available to your applications. So now you can, for example, tell Active Directory to perform a daily update of the Person records in ITRP. Or you could let your discovery tool maintain your CMDB with the software that is installed on the PCs of your end users.

You could already do this, but the Import API makes this really easy. It is now merely a matter of passing a comma-separated values (CSV) or tab-separated values (TSV) file to ITRP with an API post.

Configuration Items in Stock
The Import API documentation explains how to:
  • Generate an import file
  • Upload an import file
  • Poll for the progress of an import
  • View the detailed import log

Keep in mind that, just like you need to be an account administrator to use the import functionality within the user interface, an API user needs the Account Administrator role to upload files with the Import API.

A complete overview of the integration possibilities can be found in the ITRP developer documentation.
